Internships
VMSG employs interns for a 1 year rotating small animal medicine and surgery internship. The interns are placed through the Veterinary Internship Residency Matching Program.
The following is a list of the minimum requirements for internship application from AVMA accredited schools:
- Form S-6 VIRMP Directory Application
- CV / Resume
- Letter of Intent
- Veterinary School Transcript
- 3 Letters of Reference
- Qualified for licensure or a 1 year temporary license in the state of California
The following is a list of the minimum requirements for internship application from non-AVMA accredited schools:
- Form S-6 VIRMP Directory Application
- CV / Resume
- Letter of Intent
- Veterinary School Transcript
- 3 Letters of Reference
- Qualified for a 1 year temporary license in the state of California
- Complete ECFVG or PAVE program and must provide completion certificate with VIRMP package
- Have a current license in another US state or Canada
The following is a list of the minimum requirements for foreign graduates applying for internship in California
- Student must have completed an ECFVG or PAVE Program. These are educational equivalency training and testing programs.
- Must have licensure in either another US State or Province or Canada.
- Must apply for the CA one-year temporary intern license.
- If the internship lasts longer than one year they may not continue to practice. In other words, if the license is issued on 6/10/09 it expires on 6/9/10 and the foreign graduate may not practice beyond 6/9/10. Unless there is a permanent CA license which starts on or before that date.
